It's a black and white photograph of an open field underneath a sky of billowing clouds. In the middle of the field is a primitive ladder, with about a dozen rungs, standing upright with no visible means of support. The card reads, "...at last the ladder, which had been built slowly, slowly, one hope at a time, reached up to the clouds. And the dreamer began to climb."

All of us who had "the dream" about the Library have seen it come to fruition. We finally have moved back home, and the wonder we're seeing in everyone's eyes as they look around the Library has made all the hard work worth it.

I invite you all to visit us if you haven't already, and take in all the beauty and grandeur of our Library building and make us a part of your community life. The renovation could not have occurred without all of your support and good wishes. Stop in and join the celebration!

Christine Dickerson
DirectorThe Community Libraryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12227644510952359054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5100119303164559234.post-32509601141757251932007-11-20T12:48:00.000-05:002007-11-20T13:01:23.286-05:00November 20, 2007

I can't believe so much time has past since I last wrote! But now that our entire website is up and running, and many of you are discovering it for the first time, I promise to be more faithful.
After all, it's just two days before Thanksgiving, and we have much to be thankful for at the Library, and I want to share it all with you.

The renovation work is winding down, and truly, it's been accomplished without any major hitches or problems. The carpeting is in, the first ceiling fixtures were installed just this morning, the elevator is in, and the painting is winding down. Pictures of the Library may be seen at our location on Barnerville Road courtesy of trustee Harriet Berard, so come on up for a look at the progress! You'll be as impressed, excited, and thrilled as we all are to see how it's coming together. In sum, the word is "elegant".

So what are we thankful for? The hard work of staff, trustees, volunteers, contractors, architects, electricians, plumbing and heating personnel, and engineers comes to mind. But we're also thankful for the support we've received from the community and from our patrons without which none of this could have happened. I'm feeling indebted beyond words - which is really something for me to admit!

Stay tuned for more progress reports, and have a happy, healthy, and festive Thanksgiving! The Community Libraryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12227644510952359054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5100119303164559234.post-88759510547482603962007-09-27T17:07:00.000-04:002007-10-01T11:43:53.130-04:00Welcome to The Director's Blog at The Community Library!

I've been warned that blogs need to be kept short, and that will be hard for me, as a writer, to adhere to! But even if I wanted to disregard that advice, there aren't enough words to tell you how excited I am about this blog, getting our new website up and running, and, above all, having this cyber-vehicle to share news of our renovation.

Every day, we have dozens of conversations with patrons as well as people we meet on the street, and in every one of those conversations, the topic is the Library's renovation. To summarize (and follow that first rule about brevity), let me say we're psyched, exhausted, enthused, tired, anxious, nervous, and incredibly excited! The renovation has gone so smoothly it's almost scary. The staff, trustees, and members of the community have worked so incredibly hard, and we're certain you'll be as excited as we are when we're completely done and moved back in. Check out the website for photos, keep reading here in the Blog for updates, and let us hear back from you with any questions or comments you might have on anything. For as I keep saying, this is your Library! The Community Libraryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12227644510952359054noreply@blogger.com
